Battle of the Badges 2010 Wrap Up!
Mon. April 12, 2010 at 05:15 PM
The 1st Annual Battle of the Badges kicked off on Sunday at US Airways Center. This event was created to raise funds for The 100 Club of Arizona, and we were able to generate more than $3000 for them. The 100 Club stands behind the men and women who stand behind the badge, providing financial assistance to the families of fallen police and fire fighters.
The day started out with Mesa Honor Guard presenting the colors, then an amazing National Anthem sung by up-and-coming Arizona star Angela Anne. Shortly following the formal ceremony came the tip off of the 3rd place game - Mesa Police Department vs. Phoenix Fire Department. Phoenix Fire was able to edge out Mesa PD, to take home 3rd place honors.
The Championship game featured Maricopa County Sheriff's Office vs. Phoenix Fire Department (Du Bois). After a tough battle, the Phoenix Fire Department came out on top, winning the big trophy and bragging rights for a year!
The Suns Gorilla was in attendance for the trophy presentation, and he stuck around to take some photos with the people who came out to support the cause. Suns head coach Alvin Gentry, and Suns owner Robert Sarver were also in the crowd, watching the action!
After the game, everyone headed across the street to Stoudemire's, where owner Bill Smith was gracious enough to donate 10% of all food and drinks to The 100 Club!
When our bellies were full, the group headed back over to US Airways Center for early entry to watch the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets warm up from the lower level. Then we all watched the game together, and the Suns whipped those Rockets in a bad way!! As an added bonus, there was a free concert after the Suns game by Smash Mouth - right there in the arena!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support this event. We have already committed to next year, and it's going to be even bigger and better!! Here are some photos from the event:
